1. The best of Italy + a little Austrian influence = Dolomites & Ladin Culture
Seriously, who has not dreamt of spending time in Italy?!
Italy is known for divine food, endless espressos, delicious vine or after dinner grappas; beaches in the South and stunning mountains up North, bordering Austria and Switzerland.
Spending time in the Italian Dolomites means exploring a region that features some of the most beautiful mountain landscapes anywhere, with vertical walls, sheer cliffs and a high density of narrow, deep and long valleys.
Ladin is an ancient culture that is unique to the Dolomites and RE:treat will take you to the stunning little enclave of San Cassiano, at the top of Val Badia, in the heart of the Ladin culture. Apart from speaking their own language, and observing their own traditions and even their own cuisine. With roots dating as far back as the Roman Empire, it is a culture steeped in history. There are five areas of the Dolomites where the Ladin tradition is still prevalent and the language spoken fluently: Val Gardena, Val Badia, Val di Fassa, Livinallongo and Cortina d’Ampezzo. These are officially known as the Ladin valleys. Val Badia is a ski resort village that offers natural beauty and indescribable picturesque views. It is also home to several world famous and award winning restaurants and hotels. The Ladin culture here is prevalent and based heavily on agriculture and traditional art.
2. Belles montagnes - Beautiful Mountains:
The Dolomites are one of the most stunning mountains in the world. No where else will you find such dramatic valleys, high-alpine pastures and see sunsets like this. From San Cassiano, the group will venture out on hikes in the are. Particularly this part of the Val Badia offers an endless variety of trails, hut systems, mountain restaurants and caters to every-level hiker. Group hikes will be approx. 3h/day and are optional for participants.
3. World-Class Yoga & High Alpine Pastures
What better place to unwind and relax than Mother Nature. From personal experience, we know and understand how important it is to re-connect with your environment and allow yourself to be open to the elements and natural energies. Practicing yoga underneath sheer endless mountain ranges really emphasizes the effects of asana and pranayama practice. If the weather allows, we gather in the morning for an outdoor Sunrise Yoga Practice (1.5h) near our hotel. The morning practice will be invigorating, allowing your blood to flow, flushing out anything that does not serve us and cleansing the body on a deeper level. Afternoon yoga will be a 1h-long, restorative yoga practice, focussing on prana-yama and restoring the integrity of the body.
RE:treat co-founder & Yogini Barbara “Babsi” Glanznig, will be leading this event and its yoga practices. As almost local, Babsi grew up in the Austrian mountains, not far from San Cassiano.
Katie Klingsporn, a regular in Babsi’s yoga classes, shared her experiences with us: “Babsi is a competent, comprehensive and hands-on yoga instructor whose classes combine the best of yoga — physical challenge, spiritual grounding, well-paced flow and playfulness. I like her class because even though it is difficult, there is no ego, no expectation that you have to be able to do the perfect asana. Showing up is enough. Plus, her adjustments are heavenly.”
