The past four weeks have flown by, my bags are packed and I will move out of my Yurt to return home to Telluride.
Crestone is full of wonderful, open-minded and friendly people, spiritual centers, yogis, buddhists, hippies and folks like you & me, who come to visit and practice.
Here’s a little glimpse into my life in Crestone...
My home-away-from-home: a Yurt
5 min. by bike from Crestone town center, Beth & Nathan created Shangrilah Stove & Spa sanctuary. I landed there by accident and could not have picked a better place as vacation home. Beth & Nathan are incredibly welcoming and great hosts, with a beautiful vision for their lives & property. In between three goats, chickens, a couple of ducks, fish and a luscious garden, was my yurt aka my new home for the rest of my time here in Crestone. Before my trip, I had never even thought about living in a yurt but here I ended up with my own “Little Princess Dome”, as I call it. Viennese Mélange made to perfection at the Elephant Cloud Station in Crestone
“Mélange” is a typical Viennese coffee made with a shot of espresso, some milk and a little foam on top. When I first arrived, The Elephant Could Station was the first place I ate breakfast at and after Benjamin, the owner, asked me where I was from (new face in town raises questions), he asked if I wanted a Mélange. I could not believe that he knew this type of coffee even existed, let alone how to make it! After my first Mélange, I enjoy coming to the Elephant Cloud Station on a daily basis, to socialize with locals, check my emails & enjoy their yummy pastries, panninis, coffee or teas. Adjacent to the coffee shop Benjamin & his wife have a wonderful health food store, where you can find great, organic & local produce and essentials for every health & environmentally conscious household!

Ashtanga Yoga with Annie Pace at Shakti Sharanam Shala
Speaking of sanctuaries, Shakti Sharanam is a sanctuary for the Ashtanga Yoga practice. Annie Pace, owner and senior Ashtanga Yoga teacher (she received the Advanced B teaching Certificate from Sri K. Pattbhi Jois) has created a truly special place just a couple of blocks from Crestone town center. Annie offers several classes per week, workshops, private classes and much more. Annie is a fountain of wisdom and teaches the traditional Ashtanga Yoga method in a fun & very approachable way.
As soon as you enter the Shakti Sharanam space, you can feel how much love and devotion has gone into creating this shala and also, how Annie incorporates "the yogic lifestyle" into every aspect of her life. It has been an immense blessing to be able to practice & study here in Crestone with Annie and I can honestly say, I have never been able to experience yoga on such a level before.

Soak your sore limbs at Valley View Hot springs
Living here in Colorado, you will most likely be spoilt when it comes to hot springs but Valley View takes it to a whole other level. As you can already guess from the name, you will have a pretty spectacular “San Luis valley view”, while soaking in different pools scattered all over the big property of the Orient Land trust. To round off my Ashtanga Yoga retreat experience here in Crestone, my teacher Annie Pace kindly took me to Valley View once a week and my body could have not been happier. Soaking for hours in one of their natural pools, with deer grazing a couple of feet away, or taking long saunas felt delicious and complemented my practice schedule in the best way possible.
There is so much more to Crestone than this and I could go on and on for ever.
All in all it has been such an amazing experience that exceeded any of my expectations and so I can say one thing with certainty: I will return to this little gem in the San Luis Valley!
