Cleansing is a ritual that has been practiced for centuries and over time has transformed from its religious roots into a, "swimsuit season is coming" driven practice. I have always steered clear of cleanses because I envisioned having to take a two week hiatus from life because let's be honest, no one wants to be near me when hanger (hunger+anger) sets in. As of late I am feeling the need for an internal overhaul and I need a program that offers more than juice to keep my inner hangry monster at bay.
I came across The Conscious Cleanse, started by two amazing Boulder, Colorado experts, Jo Schaalman and Julie Pelaez. In a nutshell, it is a two week program that eliminates inflammatory and addicting foods, allowing healing and therapeutic foods to remain, making it a truly approachable cleanse.
The process starts with a five day transition period, focusing on eliminating one or two things each day to prepare for the two week cleanse that follows. I have decided to start transitioning a few weeks before I begin the cleanse because I want to be, well, conscious when it starts. I have been off gluten and have already noticed inflammation and excess water weight is nearly gone. I am recovering much faster from workouts and my physical body feels svelte in my skinny jeans.
If you are curious about cleansing, but are nervous to try one, Jo & Julie offer a highly supported cleanse. I invite you to take a two week journey inside because let's face it, with the dirty world we life in, we could all use a spring cleaning. As I get into the meat and potatoes (or away from) I will share some of my journal entries on the experience.
Here is a taste of The Conscious Cleanse Morning Ritual:
Yield: 1 quart
2 cups coconut milk
½ cup mango
1 small lemon, peeled
1 in. fresh ginger
2 cups kale
1 tsp. turmeric
